We've all said this phrase in one form or another, or at least heard someone else say it. "I drank the Kool-Aid!"
Translation: I jumped on board. To hell with Public enemy - I in fact do believe the hype. I'm in! You've got me sold!! Where do I sign up?!
Harmless enough right?
Curious about where this saying came from, I decided to Google it:
drink the kool-aid - A reference to the 1978 cult mass-suicide in Jonestown, Guyana. Jim Jones, the leader of the group, convinced his followers to move to Jonestown. Late in the year he then ordered his flock to commit suicide by drinking grape-flavored Kool-Aid laced with potassium cyanide. In what is now commonly called "the Jonestown Massacre", 913 of the 1100 Jonestown residents drank the Kool-Aid and died.
Quite a striking contrast to a large friendly Kool-Aid man bursting through your parents' walls screaming "OH YEAH!"
So, despite my fond childhood memories, I will not be drinking the Kool-Aid... especially if its laced with potassium cyanide.

yes, this usually implies a decision that flies in the face of logic, but the individual displays a certain "devil may care" attitude.
hmm, was it too soon to include that last bit?
